Favourite Primers

I am a primer lover. I have friends that don’t use it at all and I look at them like “HOW?!” and “YOU’RE SO DAMN LUCKY!” lol. It’s very rare that I forget to put on primer before my makeup, but at the odd time I do when I’m rushed & I hate it. My makeup feels and looks different. It’s something I can’t really describe but my makeup just does not last during the day without it.
I have (to me) very visible pores on my nose, cheeks & chin. So I like a primer that helps minimize them. I have a few go tos but there is one that I am hooked on. Before I let you in on my not so little secret, here are a couple of my other favourites.  And bonus, they’re both from the drugstore! #win.
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer. Ladies, in my opinion, this is just as good as the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer and it is way more affordable. The texture of this primer is like butter. It goes on easily and does its job.
NYX Professional Makeup Pore Filler. This primer is awesome. Same consistency and an awesome alternative to the Benefit Porefessional. I used this primer for years after I found it at the drugstore. I can see my skin smooth out and pores fill when I put this on. It is a must try for sure!
Alright ladies, I haven’t tried many primers, but my all time favourite……drum roll please….. is Farsali Unicorn Essence. This product has many mixed reviews as all products do. Not everyone has the same skin type so of course it will be different on everyone. I first saw this on Instagram (of course) when @farahdhukai was using it non stop on her page. Digging further like the little detective I am, I found out that it was actually her husband Sal Ali, that created this for her. Farsali is a combination of both their names. How freaking sweet is that, am I right?! Sal Ali wanted to create a product for his wife that would work both as skin care and with makeup and he did just that.
When I saw this product, I fell for the hype. I have no problem admitting that. I fell hard for it. I have dry skin so not only is this an amazing primer, it’s super hydrating as well. This is on the pricier side for primers, at $67 CAD from Sephora Canada, it is considered to be a ‘high end’ beauty product. But how I think about it is – I’m getting skincare & primer in one bottle. It’s like a 2 for 1, so that’s okay, right?
With unicorn essence under my makeup – my pores look smaller and my makeup lasts all day. It does exactly what it says it’s going to do from their description on their website. The scent to me is light and refreshing and my skin feels like it took a drink of water after I rub it in. If you’re like me and have dry to normal skin and you’re looking for something that will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day then I would give this product a shot! I’ve been using it for almost a year and I haven’t touched my other primers since.
What are your favourite primers? I would love to hear about what you love about them! Leave me a comment a below.
Till next time,

Makeup – Then & Now

The evolution of makeup has come a long long way. In school this week, we learned about the history of makeup.  I’m not going to do a long write up about how makeup has evolved since 10,000BC – instead I’m going to write about my homework assignment. We had to pick an era between the 1920’s – 1990’s. Besides talking about the chosen era, social scene and fashion, I spent the majority of my time researching the makeup.

Bronze Love

When I do my makeup for the day, I always open a few palettes to try to see what I’m feeling and what I’m not. Almost 90% of the time, I go for a bronze-y/gold look. It’s simple, easy, and not too fancy!

Here are the products I used to create this look:

What’s Your Season?

Has anyone ever told you what season you are? I had never heard of this until day 2 of Makeup101. Apparently it’s an age old thing that used to be very common in deciding which makeup colours would suit your skin tone and features the best!

So are you Winter, Summer, Autumn or Spring?
